UNISA-SHANGHAI UNIVERSITY PACT

Unisa-Shanghai University Pact. The Pan-Mediterranean Centre is born

1 November 2018

The University of Salerno, under the guidance of the Rector Aurelio Tommasetti, took part in the “One Belt One Road University Presidents’ Forum” event at the Shanghai University on 25-26 October 2018. The UNISA delegation, accompanied also by professors Vincenzo Piluso (Director of Department of Civil Engineering/DICIV), Vincenzo Loia (Director of Department of Business Management and Innovation Systems/DISA-MIS), Gianluigi De Mare (Department of Civil Engineering/DICIV/Director of Project Evaluation Laboratory/PEL) and Renato Benintendi (International Strategy Manager/PEL) underlined the competences Salerno in the field of scientific research. Moreover, at the summit, the Rector Aurelio Tommasetti and the governance of Shanghai University have signed an executive protocol that provides for two levels of collaboration. The first concerns educational and scientific collaboration. The second concerns the creation of a Pan-Mediterranean Research Centre that will involve Italian and Chinese skills under the leadership of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), a UN body. The research activities promoted by the Centre will concern the analysis and development of the themes of the Chinese project “Belt and Road Initiative” (BRI), the largest infrastructure program for connection and communication in the Eurasia countries. The realization of the Centre is inspired by the activation of a scholarship for innovative doctorates with industrial characterization banned by the Ministry of Education. The PhD scholarship related to BRI research activities stems from a collaboration between the Project Evaluation Laboratory (PEL) directed by Prof. Gianluigi De Mare (Diciv, Unisa) and the Shanghai University. Professor Antonio Nesticò, Head of Economic Evaluation of PEL, coordinates the research activities.
